The Legatum Institute calls for a televised debate between Lord Cameron and David Lammy

In front of 10 Downing Street, the Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak painted a stark picture of the current state of the world. We live at a time that is more dangerous and uncertain than at any point since the end of the Cold War.

From Putin’s illegal war in Ukraine, growing instability in the Middle East and Africa alongside the challenges from rising global superpowers, the threats and challenges are vast and only growing. The UK has led on many of these challenges, leading from the front in opposing Putin and through the creation and promotion of the AUKUS partnership.

But given this once in a generation backdrop, it is only right that the British public get to hear from those who will be charged with pursuing the United Kingdom’s interests on the global stage.

The Legatum Institute is therefore calling for a televised debate between the two people most likely to be Foreign Secretary after the General Election, the current occupant Lord Cameron and the Shadow Foreign Secretary, David Lammy, to set out their respective visions for the United Kingdom. The British people deserve to hear how these visions will ensure our security, sovereignty and prosperity.
