The Social Metrics Commission (SMC) was formed three years ago with the sole and express aim of delivering new poverty metrics for the UK. Speaking in the House of Lords on January 21st, Baroness Philippa Stroud presented to members the findings of the SMC's new poverty measure and challenged the Department of Work and Pensions to adopt the poverty measure as the U.K.'s official metric.
