New Managing Director will help the Legatum Institute achieve its ambitious vision

Legatum Institute appoints Managing Director

The Legatum Institute is delighted to announce the appointment of David Wesson as its new Managing Director, effective from September 2020.

The Institute has an ambitious vision to create a global movement of people committed to creating the pathways from poverty to prosperity and the transformation of society. The appointment of a Managing Director is a key step for us as we work to fulfil our mission to raise up leaders of character, restore an ethical vitality to all sectors of society, and develop the practical solutions and data tools that help build inclusive and peaceful societies with open economies and empowered people.

In his role as Managing Director, David will work alongside CEO Philippa Stroud to translate our vision into executable strategies. He brings experience of creating pathways from poverty to prosperity from his time as CEO of City Gateway – a training and employability charity working for disadvantaged Londoners – and of building systems and structures that deliver a large vision from a decade at Virgin, having started his career at Arthur Anderson. David is also a non-executive director for international development NGO Tearfund.

Commenting on the appointment, Philippa Stroud, CEO of the Legatum Institute, said: “I am delighted that David has agreed to join the Institute. To fulfil the opportunities that lie ahead of us we need to build new systems and structures that will enable the vision to become a reality and develop the resources that will allow the Institute to have even greater impact. David has great experience and expertise in developing and implementing new operational models for growth, while building great teams who can deliver real change. I am confident that he will make an invaluable contribution to our mission.”

Commenting on his appointment, David Wesson said: “I am very pleased to be joining the Legatum Institute as it embarks on building out its 10-year vision and seeks to increase its impact both here in the UK and around the world. I look forward to bringing talented people together in this values-driven culture, to develop the strategies that allow these teams to deliver operational excellence, impact outcomes, and innovation for the future, as we seek to make the Institute’s vision a reality.”
