On February 4th 2019, the Legatum Institute hosted Arthur Brooks where he spoke on the topic of ‘Why Character Determines Success’, as part of our Road to Character series.

Arthur Brooks is the outgoing President of the American Enterprise Institute (AEI), a US-based think tank. A professional musician turned prominent social scientist and economist, Dr Brooks is a contributing opinion writer for The New York Times and the bestselling author of 11 books. His upcoming film released later this year is The Pursuit.

The Legatum Institute’s Road to Character series examines those values which most strengthen and enrich the well-being of people, communities and nationsLaunched in 2017 by the best-selling author and New York Times columnist David Brooks (no relation!), it invites leading thinkers to discuss a character trait they value and how it has proved a pivotal influence in their lives.

The series comprises a key part of the Legatum Institute’s Cultural Transformation programme which seeks to help the UK’s great institutions examine how they can make a significant contribution to the strength, integrity and health of our society.
