We are delighted to welcome back best-selling author, journalist and commentator David Brooks who will speak at the Legatum Institute on the subject of Commitment, the major theme of his newly released book “The Second Mountain”.

About the book: Everybody tells you to live for a cause larger than yourself, but how exactly do you do it? What does it take to lead a meaningful life in a self-centred world? In “The Second Mountain”, David Brooks explores the four commitments that define a life of meaning and purpose: to a spouse and family, to a vocation, to a philosophy or faith, and to a community. He argues that our personal fulfilment depends on how well we choose and execute these commitments, as life moves from self-centred to other-centred.

David Brooks is one of America’s leading writers and commentators. His regular column for The New York Times reaches over 800,000 readers across the globe. His previous books include the bestsellers The Social Animal and Bobos in Paradise.

The Legatum Institute’s Road to Character series examines the values which most strengthen and enrich the wellbeing of people, communities and nations. We do this principally by inviting leading thinkers to discuss the character trait they most value. The series comprises a key part of the Legatum Institute’s Cultural Transformation programme which examines how we can contribute to the strength, integrity and health of our society.

Doors will open at 6:00pm for a 6:30pm start. To register your interest to attend email events@li.com
