Tim Montgomerie hosted a Question Time-style panel with three cabinet ministers—Michael Gove, MP, Sajid Javid MP, and Iain Duncan Smith MP—and Ruth Davidson, MSP, the Conservatives’ Scottish leader, in Manchester this month.
The event, held in Old Trafford, focused on how the Party could best help the poor and vulnerable. With a panel that embodied aspiration and triumph over adversity, the discussion highlighted the need to clean up capitalism so it could spread opportunity for all—rather than secure a fortune for the few. The time had come, said the Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice, Michael Gove, to “draw a line between the deserving and undeserving rich”.
The evening, which was hosted jointly by the Legatum Institute and The Good Right, attracted an audience of 150 from politics, business and the media. Guests included John Glen MP, Gerard Baker of the Wall Street Journal, Katharine Viner of The Guardian, and Eman Martin-Vignerte of Bosch.
